    Good Practice Notes

Adviser Forum is facilitated by F&TRC

As a result of projects and consultations, Adviser Forum publish various documents for use by distributor firms to ensure that they are fully aware of regulatory requirements and what constitutes good practice.  The documents, executive summaries and press releases are available below:

Fund Code Good Practice Guide

"The advice process is changing and is becoming much more fund driven and advisers need to be able to review and report on client investments in a cost effective manner. In recent years, advisers have adopted contract enquiry to pull down client valuations into their client management system however, message does not include investment data, e.g asset allocation, sector details etc. Client management systems have been looking at alternative ways of addressing the issue of retrieving investment data for advisers and this has resulted in the use of industry fund codes however provider practices concerning the use of industry fund codes varies. The e-services group (part of adviser forum) has developed a good practice paper that identifies a series of consistent approaches providers can take to assist adviser investment and advice processes"

Investment PlanningTools

"As someone who is charged with marketing and developing online tools, the good practice notes are incredibly useful. It's vital to understand advisers requirements, and by aggregating together the views of a considerable percentage of the top adviser firms, you have created a document that is invaluable."

Michael Barrett, Investment Tools Manager - Skandia UK.

Contract Enquiry Collaboration Guide

Contract Enquiry is a way of obtaining contract details in an electronic format.  Whilst the value of the contract should always be returned as a minimum, additional information can also be obtained.

Contract Enquiry can deliver significant cost and time savings for your business. But Contract Enquiry is not a ‘turn key' solution.  It requires understanding of the process involved, appropriate resource allocation to set it up and ensuring that your client database matches the information held by the product providers."

"We think that the Collaboration Guide that you've produced is a really handy tool for advisers. It helps to outline the benefits of contract enquiry and clarify the process involved, and I'm sure that it will encourage uptake of the service. I'll certainly be encouraging my contacts to read it!"
